In the Name of the Mother, the Daughter, and All of the Others is the manifestation of the responses elicited by Tell Me a Secret or Tell Me a Lie, an interactive project born of the artist's cultural shock during her first months in the United States.

 

As a consequence of her outsider status, Sodré prompted local residents to disclose their secrets and lies in an attempt to become more acquainted with the Portland community. Since February 2022, this question generated hundreds of responses, each with varying levels of fabrication and vulnerability.

In the Name of the Mother, the Daughter, and All of the Others turns these private narratives into public through the use of clotheslines – a playful comparison between its intended purpose and the idea of confession as a soul-cleansing method.
